Students with disabilities often have a difficult time understanding the purpose behind our national holidays or what behaviors are appropriate for which holiday. Helping students to understand the reasons behind and behaviors appropriate for each holiday is an important adult living skill and helps our students to feel included in society’s celebrations.
Free Mini-Lesson—Celebrating Thanksgiving
This mini-lesson from Daily Living Skills’ Celebrating Holidays helps students understand the history of the Thanksgiving holiday. It also contains a quick quiz to help students define appropriate behavior for the holiday and ideas about activities they can do to celebrate the holidays.

Life all books in the series, Celebrating Holidays from the Daily Living Skills series is written on a 3rd/4th-grade level with light, airy pages and bullet-point information yet, it nevertheless, honors teen sensibilities and humor while providing Indicator 13 skills and federally mandated transition skills alike.

Books are written on a 3rd/4th grade level and include grading sheets, answer keys and parent information letters to comply with federal standards for transition skills. The Teacher’s Manual (sold separately) provides information on program set-up and maintenance along with pre/post-assessments, written ITP (Individual Transition Plan) goals for each book, and parent/student interest inventories.
